About Us - Corvin & Cleo Van Stone

Our Journey

We want to share a bit of our background and journey so you can get to know us a bit better. Our entrepreneurial journey, if you want to call it that, started back in 2015. We were inspired to create an online income so that we could one day travel freely between the USA and South Africa and spend time with both of our families. At the time, we had barely any money in our bank accounts, so a lot of exciting opportunities were simply not an option for us due to financial constraints.

About Us
Cleo

We found blogging to be a possible path forward. The idea was to create a big, popular blog, monetize it with Google ads, and perhaps sell some products on the website. Over the next two years, we spent a lot of our free time, nights, and weekends working on that blog. We researched everything we could about search engine optimization and studied how search algorithms worked. We also started learning the basics of graphic design and web design.

After putting in thousands of hours of work over those couple of years—between Cleo, a few freelancers, and ourselves—we decided to pivot from our blog to more fruitful ventures. This time, we tried freelancing with website design and SEO services. That went reasonably well, and we were slowly growing our business and helping others get results with the experience we'd gained. But our hearts weren't fully in it. We had always dreamed of selling products on Amazon.

The only issue was capital. We didn't have enough to get started. So to get closer to that goal, we launched a product photography and marketing agency for Amazon sellers. Cleo had training in photography, which helped a lot in the beginning. We bought the right gear—camera, lenses, lighting, etc.—and then spread the word about our services. We reached out to Amazon sellers directly. It wasn't easy, but we eventually landed our first clients.

Amazon FBA Journey

As a brand-new business without many testimonials, we offered unlimited revisions, no upfront payment, and a full satisfaction guarantee. That way, sellers had nothing to lose by working with us. We worked extremely hard to deliver great results and make every client happy. Slowly, things picked up and we began growing steadily. While we didn't charge premium prices, we made up for it in volume. We also brought in overseas freelancers to help with editing, which sped up our workflow.

After about a year, we developed a serious case of FOMO. We were helping so many successful Amazon sellers that we felt we just had to try it for ourselves. With our background in SEO, marketing, and design, we believed we had a shot. Once we figured out how to gather enough startup capital, we chose our first product and shut down the agency. We wanted no distractions. We were all in.

We worked day and night, took no days off, and devoured every piece of content we could find on YouTube, Facebook, and Google about Amazon FBA. We spent countless hours researching niches and suppliers. We also had a friend who was an eight-figure Amazon seller—thank you, C!—who gave us invaluable help with our launch. Our product took off. We earned the best seller badge in our category and were selling hundreds of units per day. It looked like we were on the path to becoming millionaires."

Challenges

But then… everything went sideways. Our listing got hacked. All seven of our images were replaced with a photo of the Russian president. Amazon couldn't figure out what happened, and it took days to get our images restored. That downtime crushed our rankings and momentum. And it happened again—along with about forty other sellers in our niche. More hacking. More downtime. More damage.

Then came the fake reviews. Dozens of them appeared, falsely claiming our product was expired. Amazon suspended our account. It took days to gather all the documents to prove our innocence. Then our ads went haywire, becoming massively unprofitable overnight. We tried everything—even smart AI-driven ad software—but nothing worked. Our sales evaporated. Our rankings were gone. We lost the best seller badge. Eventually, we had to shut the product down.

Discovery

To move some of our unsold inventory, we set up a Google-ranking free funnel and offered a free product or discounted bundle. That brought in a small amount of profit and helped reduce our warehouse fees, but we never sold it all. Still, it was something.

The silver lining? At the same time as that product launch, we had published a cookbook to complement it. We love cooking, and with some luck, the book hit the best seller list on Amazon via Kindle Direct Publishing. No hacking. No ad issues. No shady competitors. It was our first real taste of KDP success, and it gave us hope.

But cookbooks were tough to make. So we drove to Barnes & Noble looking for inspiration. That day changed everything. We discovered an entire world of books that didn't require writing—coloring books, puzzle books, notebooks, activity books, and more. We were floored. That's when we learned about low-content and medium-content books. We dove into learning everything we could about them. We created our own puzzle book software, our own planner and notebook tools, and started building books non-stop. We also published more cookbooks, how-to guides, and children's stories—which did really well. This year, we're growing those into full brands. Covers weren't our strength, so we hired a talented designer who later became a great friend. We even went to her wedding!

Hard Work

We worked 7 days a week, day and night, for over a year and a half. Eventually, we built up a large catalog of puzzle and activity books with stable, consistent income. We also built keyword research and niche tools because the ones that existed didn't meet our needs or were too expensive.

We combined our knowledge of SEO and Amazon and created our own research tool and niche-scoring algorithm. If the score was over 50, it was probably good. If it was under 50, we passed.

We started sharing tips and helping other authors in Facebook groups. We loved giving back and connecting with the KDP community. Eventually, we decided to release our research tools to the public—for free. Thanks to some amazing people like Rebecca Holman, others in the community, and many kind YouTubers, our tools went viral. People loved them and shared them. That's when we realized we had a real business.

Self Publishing Titans

We created the Self Publishing Titans website, released even more free tools, and launched a Facebook group to support users. We loved helping other authors and still do.

Eventually, people started asking us to make a course. For a long time, we said no. We didn't like being on camera and felt awkward about it. But the requests kept coming, and we finally decided to try. Our goal was to help others more deeply and show everything we do step-by-step.

In 2022, we began planning the course. It took months. We created outlines, recorded 80 videos, and included over 100 custom resources. We even brought in a designer to help build out the downloads. We released the course to a few trusted friends first—real critics—and the feedback was amazing. So we launched it publicly, and it quickly became a big success. With that momentum, we released our first paid puzzle tool bundle and have been improving and expanding ever since. We continue to publish books and create new tools to support authors—always with the goal of making self-publishing easier and more accessible.

To date, we've sold over 240,000 books, helped more than 200,000 authors  with our free tools, and even had a book reach the Top 100 Best Seller Rank on Amazon USA  for about two weeks!

Moving forward, we plan to build brands around our children's stories, cookbooks, puzzle books, and more. We also plan to publish a few how-to books and specialized planners. Our big goal now is to   become New York Times bestselling authors.

We strongly believe in medium- and high-content books, and we're focused on brand-building, growing email lists, and engaging directly with our audience.

This was long, but we just wanted to speak from the heart. If you have questions, reach out to us anytime on our website (via Messenger) or in our Facebook group. We love hearing from new people ❤️
