Can You Become an Author at 15?

15-Year-Old Author? Really?

At 15, you likely have a ton of ideas for stories and you would enjoy somehow sharing them with the world. So, how can you, not yet allowed to drive a car in most cases, overcome the barriers to becoming a published author?

There are numerous examples of 15-year-old authors who made it big. You have the creativity already or you wouldn’t have those ideas swarming around your mind.

S.E. Hinton wrote "The Outsiders" at age 15 and is still, at 76 years old, considered one of the most successful young adult authors. Christopher Paolini self-published at 15 and his “The Inheritance Cycle” series has sold millions of copies. Isamu Fukui published "Truancy" at age 15 while he was a sophomore in high school. These success stories prove that age is no barrier when it comes to one’s wish to become an author.

How to Become an Author?

Having and telling stories is one thing, writing a book and getting it published takes patience, practice, and most of all, persistence. Practice writing every day if possible, rewrite your work as needed, and keep pushing forward. The more you write, the more you’ll enjoy writing and that could very likely be the key; to love the process. Because if you have fun writing, the rest will follow.

Final Thoughts

You can become an author at 15. Absolutely. Start writing now, focus on your story, and eventually, soon or later, you’ll have a story worth publishing.
