Story-Writing Can Begin at Any Age—Even in Your 30s!

So, if you hit the big 3-0 and think you're too old to dive into creative writing, then it's time to think again! One of the most celebrated and popular writers of the twentieth century, Robert Heinlein, did not begin writing until he was nearly fifty!

Embark on Your Writing Journey at Any Age: Why Not?

Since you've matured, you have been through any number of life experiences that can inspire your stories. You've seen and felt a lot, which will make your writing richer and more interesting.

Your moments of joy, heartache, terror, amazement and everything in between will become the fuel for your creative journey. Whether you’re dreaming up fantastical lands filled with dragons or penning witty observations about everyday life, your stories matter because they are uniquely yours.

Realize that you have more life experience to draw from, you likely have a better understanding of people and relationships, you might have more stable routines that allow time for writing and I'm guessing you may feel more confident in expressing yourself. And luckily, you have so much life ahead, filled with new experiences that will only make your storytelling richer.

It’s Never Too Late!

The key to building a writing career is simply to start writing.

Jot down your thoughts, observations, experiences or feelings—anything that comes to mind. Though you’ve heard it a thousand times, just use your imagination. that means whatever concept or story you dream up, no matter how real or fantastic, is worth noting for potential stories. Keep a folder to throw your notes and ideas into.
It’s best to start writing about a topic that you are interested in. If it comes from your heart, it’s worth sharing.
Don't try to make perfect sentences, paragraphs or chapters, just start writing and see where it takes you. You will improve with practice and you can always go back and better organize your words and ideas.
Write regularly, even if it's just for a short time each day. Set a time target, such as one hour in which you dedicate to your writing. Or you could set a target to write a particular number of words each day. No matter how you set yourself up, stick to your reachable target and you’ll find it becomes easier and even more fun as time goes by.
